David has taught at UNB (Visiting Professor), Lakehead University (Visiting Professor), UBC (Sessional Instructor), Kwantlen College (Professor), and Douglas College (Professor) (1987-Pres). He has taught Canadian Literature, the Romantics, Drama, English Composition, Poetry, Fiction, Survey of English Literature, Post-Colonial Literatures, and Children's Literature.
He is the author of six books of poetry and four chapbooks, 36+ articles on various topics, and is currently focused on writing books, stories, and articles of all sorts for children.
David is a full member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Periodical Writers Association of Canada, the League of Canadian Poets, and the Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English.

NEWS: David will be back again giving Blue Pencil Cafe sessions and presenting the Saturday Night Owl Session on "Critique Groups" at the Surrey Writer's Conference, October 2003. David will also be judging the poetry portion of the Writing Contest, along with Jack Whyte for fiction and Elizabeth Lyon for non-fiction. Super big prizes this year!
